Congratulations to last week’s IM Athlete of the Week, Casey Blue “Kiki Vandeweghe” James (2012). Like Vandeweghe before her, James has come to the rescue of a struggling, winless team. After taking up the reins of the wild stallion that is Saybrook IM Coed Innertube Waterpolo, Casey Blue has guided her team from the depths of winlessness to the slightly-shallower waters of near-winlessness. Indeed, the victory-by-forfeit over winless TD can be chalked up to James’ incredible skills in participation. Also like Vandeweghe, Casey has a hippie name. Is “Blue” a middle name, a first name or simply a twisted joke by her parents? Unfortunately, like Vandeweghe’s Nets, the answer to this conundrum is lost to time.
Does this comparison make maligned polo captain Carl Johnson first aid courses peterborough an analogue for Lawrence Frank? Perhaps. More importantly, however, it highlights the awesome power of participation. A wise man once said that 12.5% of life is just showing up, and Casey’s 1-7 polo squad is no exception. So here’s to you, Casey, for showing up when someone else didn’t. Casey will earn 30 Hudak points and the respect of her peers.

Honorable mention goes out to Leslie Roberson (2011) for, once again, finishing a close second in the AoW voting. Leslie is actually good at sports.

Another honorable mention goes out to Drew “Stack ‘em Sky High” Ruben (2011), whose lineup machinations brought Saybrook IM Squash within grasping distance of the title for the second consecutive year.

Finally, an honorable mention goes out to Ian Halpern (2010). Ian scored all 5 of Saybrook’s goals in a tough 7-5 loss to Stiles. Unfortunately for Ian, whose 4th place finish in AoW voting leaves him off the podium, it takes more than stats to succeed in sports.

Keep playing lots of IMs. We’re within chomping distance of TD for second place in the Tyng Cup standings. For a more concrete image of what we are about to do to their college, please view this short educational film:

Happy Pitchers & Catchers,
Your IM Secretaries
Michael Dunn, Leslie Golden, John Ettinger

Hey all,

A Special Note:

In order to raise awareness of my facial hair, I’ve decided to grow out my beard for November. If you can’t notice this, don’t say anything. Beard growth will continue until it is deemed too disgusting and needs to be shut down. Today’s Dusky Corners is beard-themed, with a little extra fun in light of last weekends festivities.

Before we move into the beards I know that the holiday is over, but it’s not too late to learn a few extra party game ideas: Party Time!
.

Careful gorging yourself on that Halloween candy. Otherwise, you’ll end up addicted to heroin. Or something like that. I tend to fudge the details. Mmmmmmm.
.

So first off, I thought I’d mention the real beard-growers. Men like Master Hudak who are growing moustaches to raise money for cancer research. Hats off to these gentlemen, and facial hair on. http://us.movember.com/
.

I know that everyone follows this stuff pretty religiously, but I thought I’d post the world beard championship website anyway. http://www.worldbeardchampionships.com/
.

Ever play that game Wooly Willy? Probably not. Maybe your parents did though. Here’s an incredibly low quality flash version of it. Give him a nice beard. http://www.kongregate.com/games/rock3r4lyfe/wooly-willy-flash-edition
.

Here’s a much more terrifying version of the previous game. http://freelancerfox.deviantart.com/art/Wooly-Willy-Digital-17302245
.

It wouldn’t be internet-related if there weren’t a lolcat. http://www.iblog.co.za/wp-content/blogs.dir/4740/uploads//funny-pictures-little-kitten-is-big-beard.jpg
.

Think you’re up to the challenge of representing America’s beards? http://beardteamusa.org/

Great news, Saybrook! The word Saybrugian has finally made it into Urban Dictionary!

Another reflection of Saybrook’s status as the best residential college, this entry gives incoming freshman a head start in learning the characteristics of Saybrugians already common knowledge to Yale upperclassmen. This entry should also serve as a handy guide for identifying Saybrugians at a moment’s glance.

Check out the Saybrugian entry for yourself.

Here’s the Urban Dictionary entry for your convenient reading:

1. Saybrugian

A person who is a member of the greatest residential college at Yale University – Saybrook College. A Saybrugian (said with a [soft] g) is at once classified as attractive, intelligent, and fun.

Maya Lin was a Saybrugian, while Rory Gilmore was a Branfordian.
