Hey Saybrook! As you may have heard, every Yalie will be required to fill out a Census form during the first week in April. Each completed Census form will bring $9,000 to New Haven over the next ten years in the form of grants to AIDS treatment, homeless shelters, food stamps, school lunches, vocational training.

Meet your new SAC chairs, Casey Blue and Calah
Congrats to Casey Blue James and Calah Singleton for being elected SAC chairs this week! Will they be able to fill Kate and Cameron’s rather large shoes? Only time will tell, but rumor has it Alli Bauer ’12 has volunteered to help them out by sharing equal SAC responsibility, just without the official title (she was nominated for the position as well, but withdrew her name from the running).
Saybrook Assassins Highlights
Day 1 of Saybrook Assassins was an absolute bloodbath, with 27 Saybrugians dying at the hands of their fellow Saybrugians.
Here’s some of the highlights:
Rick Caraballo ’13 was killed right before taking his Chem midterm. His last recorded words: “I didn’t know you were in the class.”
Shunori Ramanathan ’13 was rudely awakened by a loud knocking at her suite door. She opened the door. Big mistake.
The Daybrook’s Saybrook Travel Photography Exhibition: Part 1
Earlier in the semester, Erica Cooper SY ’11, Marissa Grunes SY ’10, and Patrick Lee SY ’11 put together a wonderful exhibit of photos from Saybrugians’ travels this summer on behalf of the Daybook. In case you missed it, here’s some of the amazing pictures our fellow Saybrugians took over the summer.
Here’s James Ford’s SY ’11 photos from his escapades through Singapore, Tokyo, and Kyoto:

The City of Singapore ("Lion City" in Malay) seen by night from the Esplanade across the bay at the heart of the city.

Kinkaku-ji, the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto. It was originally built in 1397, and was used as a Zen temple of the Rinzai school. The building has been burnt down twice throughout history with the current structure being built in 1955. The whole exterior of the temple is guilt in gold leaf.
Chapter 2: Getting Involved—Extracurriculars at Yale
Dear Saybrook Freshmen,
As promised in one of my earlier posts, here is my scoop on getting involved in extracurriculars at Yale. Since my freshman year, I have tried to be involved in as many diverse and random activities as possible. I have given tours, practiced with the Club Table Tennis Team, played the cow-bell with the YPMB (Yale Precision Marching Band), called admitted students for the admissions office, and coordinated the activities of the Yale Scientific Magazine and the Yale Undergraduate Society for Biological Sciences. Here, however, I will talk about three ventures that I have started at Yale, namely a diabetes forum, a carrom club, and a classic rock society.
But first, a bit about starting a registered organization on campus; even though Yale has 800+ organizations, there can be things that you want to do that do not exist on campus. This has a simple conceptual solution (though a harder practical one): start your own student organization. Yale is truly great in that it gives you the liberty to do whatever you want (as long as it is constructive). The application for registration can be found on the student affairs website (the link is posted in my 21 websites post). Now, I talk briefly about the above mentioned three organizations:

Attention: A Realistic Depiction of Life at Yale
So the video was released earlier this month, but take a couple of minutes out of your frantic packing (or unpacking) to enjoy the latest installment of “College Musical” from Kurt Schneider CC’10 (starring Yale students and featuring some of your favorite Yale locations such as Lanman Wright Hall itself).
To start from the beginning of the series, go here. Sadly, once on campus, I can’t promise song and dance at every opportunity, but I can promise that some of your interactions will be this awkward. Sweet.
