Saybrook College,
You may be wondering who exactly I am and what purpose I serve for the college and for this blog. Well, allow me to fill you in: My name is Jeff Perrella and I am one of two STEP coordinators for Saybrook College, the other: Emily “Slam Dunk” Arntson. Now you may be wondering what exactly STEP is, why Emily’s nickname is “Slam Dunk,” and why any of this matters at all. These are the real issues I look to tackle with this blog.
First, I am contractually obligated to drop our mission statement right here.
Boom: “The Student Taskforce for Environmental Partnership (STEP) is a student-run organization whose goal is to help Yale become a sustainable community. We aim to educate our peers about the practical components of living in a responsible and environmentally-conscious manner. We also work toward generating a campus-wide culture of sustainability wherein environmental awareness is an integral part of the Yale experience.”
For Saybrook, that means that Emily and I are here to take care of your sustainability needs. If you have questions about recycling: what to recycle, where to recycle, how to recycle, explain recycling, how should I dress while I recycle, can I recycle with a friend, is it safe to recycle alone at night, how hard can I recycle, the answer will almost always be yes. If you have concerns or questions about lighting: what kinds of light bulbs should I use, where can I get them, why are my bathroom lights on 24/7, should I turn my lights off when I leave my room, when the lights go down in the city and the sun shines on the bay do I want to be there, the answer may vary. Essentially, if you ever have any questions at all about anything that has to do with the environment (similar to, but not exactly the same as the ones listed previously) and that does not have to do with any kind of writing assignment (or Journey, because they are terrible and will never be as good as Foreigner), we will be more than happy to help you out.
Why does this matter? Well that is a really heavy question.
Why Emily “Slam Dunk” Arntson? Because she snuffs out environmental crimes in Saybrook college that disrespect our Mother Nature one overhead slam dunk at a time. (Note: I wanted to use a Kazaam clip here, but “wish not granted.”)
So email us if you ever need any recycling bins or CLF light bulbs, have any questions about tray-less dining, or want to know what you can do to help make your lifestyle or Saybrook College more sustainable.
Treat Mother Nature Right,
Jeff and Emily
